Living the simple life

Living a simpler life doesn’t mean getting rid of all the good stuff. This isn't a dietary article saying you need to rid yourself of all the best qualities in your life. Living a simpler life means eliminating excessive needs for materialism; getting rid of your desires for materialistic garbage. When you are able to do this, instantly you will create a simpler life. I’m talking about a mental transformation simply by wanting less.

Happiness found through materialism is an illusion you see every day, through your friends and neighbors eyes. Without materialism, the average family household wouldn't look the same. It would be without televisions and radios, automobiles and cellular telephones. In fact, from the perspective of an Amish person, it seems quite perfect. Society that one we live in today has literally brain washed us to think that the person who consumes the most materialism is the winner. This type of perspective leaves us feeling weak, inadequate and believing that we aren't good enough. Happiness isn't found in a store. It's found through experiences with loved ones and through our passions.

Stop thinking that you're going to be happy when (fill in the blank). Start being happy right now. You can do this simply by eliminating your neediness for materialism. All too often, we get jealous of what others have, or we feel inadequate because we aren't where we thought we would be in life. This way of thinking only discourages you further. It depletes your mindset making you feel unsatisfactory. Replace your materialistic desires with family experiences and hobbies. Spend less time at work and live a simpler life because simplicity is a great stress reliever. Less stress equals more happiness.

In what ways could you live a simpler life? How easy would it be to eliminate the desire for that new car you've been dreaming about, or the over sized home you've been killing yourself at work over? When you're able to put materialism to the side your life will take you to unbelievable heights.
